The City of St. Petersburg is making its public art collection easier to explore through a new online platform designed to help residents and visitors discover artwork throughout the city.
The Public Art Archive is an interactive online platform that allows users to explore public artwork and learn about the artists behind it. Its mission is to make public art more accessible through a guided program.
St. Pete’s public art collection includes about 90 works spanning a variety of artistic styles, materials and forms, including murals, photographs, paintings, monuments, fountains and more.
“Public art is one of the ways St. Pete tells its story,” said Celeste Davis, the city’s arts, culture and tourism director, in a press release. “This new online collection gives people another way to experience the artwork throughout our city, whether they are discovering a piece for the first time, looking for a favorite artwork, learning about a local or nationally recognized artist, or planning their own public art adventure.”
Through the platform, users can browse the collection and filter artworks by artist name, material, placement, type, year, city and theme.
Users can also report public art that needs cleaning, repairs or other attention, helping the city maintain its collection for years to come.
