Ten St. Petersburg museums are waiving admission Saturday, Sept. 19, for Free Museum Day, organized by the St. Petersburg Arts Alliance. The list includes The Dalí Museum and the Museum of Fine Arts, St. Petersburg, along with The Florida Holocaust Museum and FloridaRAMA.
The other participants are Imagine Museum of Contemporary Glass Art, the St. Petersburg Museum of History, The Woodson African American Museum of Florida, the Queer Asian Museum, the Tampa Bay Watch Discovery Center and The James Museum of Western & Wildlife Art. The Arts Alliance notes that some museums require timed entry or advance registration, and that each sets its own terms.
At the Dalí, free gallery admission is open to Pinellas County residents from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m., for walk-up visitors only. The museum's Dalí Alive 360 experience is not included, with tickets at $15, and parking at the Dalí is free for all visitors for the day. For free entry for Pinellas residents, they must show a valid driver's license.
The Museum of Fine Arts requires advance registration, with entry windows from 9 to 11 a.m., 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. and 1 to 3 p.m. The museum closes at 5 p.m. and says capacity will be limited. Free entry is for Pinellas residents with a valid driver's license.
The James Museum and FloridaRAMA both require reservations and are open from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. Imagine Museum also requires reservations.
New this year, proof of admission to a participating museum unlocks offers at local businesses. The event listing from Visit St. Pete/Clearwater names nine, including a VIP tasting upgrade at St. Petersburg Distillery, 20 percent off the food bill for dine-in guests at The Melting Pot, 15 percent off at Salty Sisters Gourmet Popcorn and three months of free membership at the Museum of Fine Arts.
