Oktoberfest Returns to Plant City With Food, Music and Family Fun

Biergartens, German-inspired food, live music and family-friendly entertainment are returning to Historic Downtown Plant City as Oktoberfest celebrates its fifth year here.

The festival is set for Sept. 26 from 3 p.m. to 10 p.m., and attendees can expect many of the traditions that have made Oktoberfest a downtown favorite, including local vendors, games, live music and German-inspired food.

Dressing up in inspired Oktoberfest attire is encouraged, but is not forced. The festival will have two bands on the main stage, a DJ in the adult competitive games and another band near the kid zone.

The festival was previously organized by Plant City Main Street, according to city officials. This year the city’s Parks & Recreation Department is taking over alongside the Plant City Chamber of Commerce, promising to keep traditions alive. The transition followed discussions with Main Street representatives as the nonprofit continues its search for a new executive director.

“Our goal is to continue this highly anticipated community tradition while supporting local businesses and creating a fun, family-friendly experience for residents and visitors,” Parks & Recreation Director Julie Garretson told the Plant City Observer.

Garretson said the festival will remain similar to previous years, with only minor changes focused on event operations.

“This year’s Oktoberfest will be very similar to previous years, with only minor enhancements and operational improvements,” Garretson said. “The overall theme, atmosphere and traditions that attendees have come to enjoy will remain the same while Parks & Recreation focuses on delivering another successful event for the community.”

The city said Parks & Recreation taking over Oktoberfest does not signal a broader change in how downtown events are managed. There are currently no plans for the department to assume responsibility for other downtown events.

This has quickly become one of the largest events in Plant City and is expected to be a day full of Oktoberfest flavors, fan favorites, local shops and more for families and friends to enjoy.
