Stronger Over 50, the free strength-training program under the MMFitness umbrella, is recruiting 470 Tampa Bay participants for a world-record attempt on November 15. The record in question: the largest senior fitness activity ever staged.
The program was built to address what its organizers describe as a gap in one of the country's largest retirement states — access to structured strength training for adults 50 and older. Stronger Over 50 has operated at no cost to participants for approximately two years, per the operator's Instagram.
On November 15, exactly 470 participants are needed for the record attempt to qualify. For those who want to try the program before committing to the November date, the operator is also offering a free class this Saturday.
Reporting on the full Stronger Over 50 story and other Tampa Bay developments is bylined to journalist Leah Burdick. November 15 will confirm whether the region's adult fitness community can deliver the headcount the record requires.
