Nueva Cantina has turned all four of its cantinas into a Hocus Pocus bar for the Halloween season. The takeover runs through November 1 in St. Petersburg, Downtown Tampa, Brandon and Palm Harbor, with witchy décor, themed margaritas and spooky Mexican dishes, and Nueva Cantina says every location carries the same menu. Downtown Tampa opened it first, on September 14, followed by Palm Harbor, St. Petersburg and, on September 28, Brandon.

Nearly every name on the menu comes from the 1993 Disney film Hocus Pocus, from the three Sanderson sisters to Billy, the film's zombie; "Come, we fly" is the line the sisters say as they take off on their brooms.

Four margaritas in one flight

The centerpiece of the bar menu is the Come, We Fly margarita flight: four seasonal margaritas in one tasting, named I Put a Spell on You, Life Potion, Winnie's Cauldron and Sanderson's Serum. The Life Potion is also poured on its own. In the film, the Sanderson sisters brew a life potion to stay young; at Nueva Cantina it is a margarita served in a blood-bag-style pouch, which the restaurant calls the menu's visual centerpiece.

The Sisters Behold soft serve margarita is tequila-infused soft serve in candy grape, sour apple or a swirl of the two. The cantina's Instagram also lists a Sisters Witch Pitcher and Salem's Cursed Shots on the Halloween drinks menu.

Birria pizza, cauldron churros and a kids' meal

From the kitchen, Billy's Birria Pizza layers birria barbacoa, melted cheese, cilantro and onions and comes with consomé. Dead Man's Churros are cinnamon-sugar churros topped with strawberry purée and served in a cauldron with a skeleton, and the menu adds a Billy's Birria Taco.

Nueva Cantina describes the Hocus Pocus bar as an all-ages experience, with date nights, group outings and families in mind. There is a themed mocktail and a Peek-A-Boo kids' meal, and the regular menu stays available alongside the Halloween specials.

A free shot for costumes, and a contest on October 31

Guests 21 and older who dine in wearing a Halloween costume receive a free cursed shot, according to Nueva Cantina.

Nueva Cantina is also holding a costume contest at all locations on Saturday, October 31, from 10 to 11 p.m. It is open to dine-in guests of any age who are seated at a table or the bar with an open check, and entries are for individuals only. Entrants check in with the host by 9:40 p.m. The winner is decided by crowd reaction at 10 p.m. and must be present to win; a tie goes to a cheer-off, and after that the general manager's call is final. First place takes home $200 in cash, second place a $100 gift card and third place a $50 gift card.
