Monkey Mike's, a dessert shop built around hand-dipped frozen bananas, opens Saturday at 369 Main St. in downtown Dunedin. The grand opening celebration runs Aug. 29 from 1 to 4 p.m., with live steel drum music and giveaways on the schedule, per the operator's Instagram.

The shop's central product is a frozen banana hand-dipped to order in a choice of milk, dark, or white chocolate, then finished with toppings: peanuts, sprinkles, and caramel drizzle. The format reconfigures the banana split onto a stick, making the dessert handheld and portable.

The stick concept extends across the full sweet menu. Beyond the signature frozen banana, Monkey Mike's serves cheesecake on a stick and an ice cream sandwich on a stick. Drinks run tropical, with a coconut breeze lemonade among the options. Customers can also purchase take-home boxes of frozen banana halves for off-site eating.

The grand opening event leans into the shop's tropical theme: steel drum music plays live throughout the afternoon, and giveaways are planned across the three-hour window. Regular service at 369 Main St. begins following Saturday's debut.
