Mita's Cocina Moderna has opened at 301 W Platt Street in Hyde Park, adding a torta-anchored Mexican kitchen to the South Tampa neighborhood. The operator announced the opening on Instagram, noting that the kitchen is running its full schedule immediately: Monday through Saturday, 11 a.m. to 9 p.m., and Sundays from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. for brunch. No prior location, lease context, or operator background was included in the announcement.

The torta program is the clearest signal of the kitchen's identity. Both signature sandwiches are built on Mexican Telera bread — a rounded, segmented roll with a softer crumb than a baguette-style bolillo — a choice that moves the menu toward something more regionally specific than the flour-tortilla formats common across the market. La Mita layers thin-sliced steak, chorizo, ham, Oaxaca cheese, and avocado. La Titan is a foot-long version built to share. The names lean into a proprietary identity rather than generic descriptors.

The broader menu extends through tacos, quesadillas, burritos, bowls, fajitas, and enchiladas — a full-range lineup covering both casual lunch and dinner-table orders. Starters include queso fundido and spicy garlic shrimp, the latter more common in higher-ticket Mexican kitchens than in fast-casual builds. Neither price points nor seat count have been disclosed in any public-facing source.

The Sunday brunch window runs 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. The announcement offered no detail on whether that service includes a distinct brunch menu or simply an earlier close-out of the standard lineup.

Hyde Park's dining strip along W Platt has hosted a rotating cast of food-and-beverage operators drawn by the neighborhood's residential density and proximity to Bayshore Boulevard. A concept built around shareable formats and a Sunday program that wraps by midafternoon maps to the corridor's established rhythm of lunch-driven and early-dinner trade.

The most immediate signal to watch: whether the kitchen extends Sunday hours or adds programming as it builds its footing on W Platt.
