Bissinger's Handcrafted Chocolatier opened its Sarasota boutique on July 23, taking a first-floor space at University Town Center directly outside Saks Fifth Avenue. The opening marks the brand's third Florida address — joining existing boutiques in Palm Beach and at Tampa's International Plaza — and brings its nationwide footprint to 11 locations.
Bissinger's founding date sets it apart from most specialty retail operating in the same corridor: the company traces its origins to Paris in 1668, where it served as confectioner to the King of France. That lineage, per the brand's own account, is still carried forward in the production process — copper kettles and a family cookbook dated 1899 remain the operational framework behind the chocolates sold at each of its boutiques.
The placement outside Saks Fifth Avenue puts Bissinger's at the anchor end of University Town Center, Sarasota's primary luxury retail destination. For a brand with 11 locations nationally, the choice of Sarasota as its third Florida market reflects an expansion model oriented toward established luxury retail corridors rather than volume growth.
With Palm Beach and Tampa already in the network, the Sarasota shop extends Bissinger's Florida presence across three distinct markets. At this scale, each new boutique represents a deliberate market entry. Whether additional Gulf Coast addresses follow will be the next signal from a chocolatier that has kept its footprint to 11 boutiques across more than three and a half centuries of operation.
