Parts of the Florida Gulf Coast are under a hurricane watch as Tropical Storm Isaias is expected to strengthen before making landfall along the northern Gulf Coast Friday.
The National Hurricane Center (NHC) said a storm surge watch is in effect from the mouth of the Mississippi River to Yankeetown, Florida.
A hurricane watch was issued Oct. 7 from Bay St. Louis, Mississippi, to Indian Pass, Florida. The NHC said residents in the area should prepare for possible power outages.
Tropical Storm Isaias is expected to bring heavy rainfall to the central U.S. Gulf Coast and much of the Southeast from Friday into the weekend.
MacDill Air Force Base posted on Facebook that residents can expect increased aircraft activity as planes are evacuated from Tyndall Air Force Base ahead of Isaias.
The NHC expects Yankeetown to receive about 2 to 4 feet of storm surge.
Isaias currently has maximum sustained winds of 45 mph and is moving east-northeast at 8 mph.
