Following a fatal incident at Six Flags Over Georgia that left a 42-year-old man dead after falling from a roller coaster, several amusement parks have temporarily closed similar rides manufactured by the same company as a precaution.
The man was riding Goliath when he was ejected from his seat, struck other riders and fell to the ground.
Since the investigation began, multiple news reports have indicated that about 10 similar roller coasters across North America have also been temporarily closed, including Mako at SeaWorld Orlando.
Mako remains temporarily closed, and the park’s public relations team said there is no estimated reopening date.
“Our thoughts and prayers are with all of those involved in the tragic incident at Six Flags over Georgia,” a statement from the park’s public relations team said. “The safety of our guests and team members is a top priority. Our safety staff and ride technicians strive to maintain and deliver attractions that our guests can enjoy with confidence. That work includes regular ride inspections and ongoing collaboration with ride manufacturers and other engineering and safety experts.”
According to the park, Mako is Orlando’s tallest and fastest roller coaster.
Mako was built by Bolliger & Mabillard, the same company that designed and manufactured Goliath.
