Habitat for Humanity of Tampa Bay Hillsborough broke ground on eight new affordable townhomes in Ybor City to help working families achieve homeownership.

The Ybor Villas, located at 2608 E. 10th Ave., will be built in two phases. The first four townhomes are expected to be completed in summer 2027, with the remaining four expected to be completed by the end of 2027.

Each townhome will be 1,470 square feet and include four bedrooms and 2.5 bathrooms. Habitat for Humanity said the City of Tampa is also providing down-payment assistance to help families purchase the homes.

“This groundbreaking comes at a time when too many hardworking families are struggling to find a home they can afford in the communities they call home,” Tina Forcier, CEO of Habitat for Humanity of Tampa Bay Hillsborough, said in a press release. “Ybor Villas is one way we can help change that. We’re grateful to the City of Tampa, businesses, financial institutions and community partners who came together to create more affordable homeownership opportunities in Ybor City.”

On Oct. 7, Habitat for Humanity of Tampa Bay announced it received a grant from Verizon to help strengthen homes against extreme weather. The funding will support projects such as Ybor Villas.

“As Tampa Bay continues to build back stronger, Verizon is proud to partner with Habitat for Humanity of Tampa Bay Hillsborough to ensure our local neighborhoods are equipped for the future,” Courtney Barnard, senior manager of government and external affairs at Verizon, said in a press release.

Verizon is providing hurricane shutters for the new townhomes, while Grow Financial is sponsoring one of the villas.

The project is funded in part by $1.2 million in financing from the Federal Home Loan Bank of Pittsburgh.
